10 Crazy Cartoon Voice Casting Choices That Actually Worked

4. Kevin Spacey - A Bug's Life

Bugslife Speaking of strange bug-related roles, there's definitely Kevin Spacey's performance in A Bug's Life to consider. In the span of four years, he starred in the movies Se7en, The Usual Suspects, LA Confidential, American Beauty, and...A Bug's Life. Which one of these is not like the others? At this point in his career, he was definitely well known for being an edgy sort of villain, or at the very least a character who makes it clear throughout the film that he should not be trifled with. So the decision to cast him as a grasshopper, even as a particularly nasty one, is a big leap (you see what we did there?). During this part of the 90s, he went from chopping off the head of Brad Pitt's wife to stealing all of the ants' food supply so the grasshoppers can eat it instead. Gasp. Luckily, Kevin Spacey's voice is distinctive and threatening enough to still be scary in a kid's film, even if he had been a great deal more frightening in some of his other roles that came out around the same time.
