10 DC Characters That Deserve Animated Films

7. Green Arrow

Greenarrow2 Oliver Queen is a billionaire businessman and owner of Queen Industries, who patrols the streets of Starling City as Green Arrow, a vigilante with a shocking resemblance to Robin Hood. He was created in 1941 by Morton Weisinger, and has often been criticized as a Batman knock-off. Since his debut, however, he's gone through several variations and rebirths that have given him a life of his own and set him apart from the Dark Knight. He wasn't a significant hero for the first 25 years of publication, but became increasingly popular when he paired up with Hal Jordan in the highly successful, critically acclaimed comics series, Green Lantern/Green Arrow. In the 2000's, he appeared in a number of DC animated series, including Justice League Unlimited, Young Justice, The Batman, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and several animated features. He was also a core character in the last four seasons of Smallville, and is now the focus of his own TV show, Arrow, on the CW. David S. Goyer and Justin Marks wrote a screenplay for a live action Green Arrow film, Green Arrow: Escape from Super Max, in 2008. The movie would have featured Oliver Queen framed for a crime he didn't commit, and sentenced to a high-security prison. He must battle his way out, facing off against various DC comics villains and rogue superheroes. The script has most likely been shelved now that Goyer is busy working on Batman Vs. Superman with Zack Snyder, so what better way to bring it to life than in animation? With the character's newfound popularity due to Arrow's success, now would be the perfect time to give him a feature of his own.
