Remember when Tom Hardy's Bane came along in The Dark Knight Rises and wiped the slate clean after Joel Schumacher effectively ruined the comics character in the abysmal Batman & Robin? Don't you wish someone would come along and do the same thing for Shaq's Steel? Steel is a kinda-sorta version of Superman that arises after the death of Kal-El at the hands of Doomsday (one of several "Supermen" that reign around that time). He never overtly claimed to actually be Superman, and thus his status as a hero is never endangered by a hunger for fame or power. Prior to his becoming the hero, though, the man was named John Henry Irons. A weapons designer for a Metropolis-based firm AmerTek Industries, Irons soon learns his designs are being abused and he leaves to found his own company. Steel's appearance in the DC Cinematic Universe may be doubtful in these early stages, but John Henry Irons could certainly play a role. With the continued insistence that Batman vs. Superman is "not a Justice League movie" but rather a "true Man of Steel" sequel, it's safe to assume that Metropolis will be the setting for at least a portion of the film. Seeing Irons in a small role wouldn't distract from the overall plot, and it would leave the door open for Johnson to become Steel down the line. Chances Dwayne Johnson will play John Henry Irons: Fair, depending on where the character is taken. As long as they take it a long way from Shaq, we're safe. There are hundreds of characters under the DC Comics umbrella. Which role would you like to see The Rock take on? Let us know in the comments below!
