10 Deleted Scenes That Would Have Ruined Their Movies
5. A Famous Narrator - Life Of Pi
Few directors working today are anywhere near as diverse in their choice of projects as Ang Lee. From the underrated comic book adaptation Hulk through to kung fu masterpiece Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Lee has proven himself to be adept at tackling any genre. His wonderful adaptation of Yan Martel's novel Life Of Pi is no exception - Lee handles the difficult source material with remarkable assurity and utilises 3D technology with a beauty the format has rarely seen. Had he stuck to his original casting decision for the character of the writer who interviews the central character, however, the feel of the film could have been quite different. Tobey Maguire was originally cast in the role, and his star status might have seriously detracted from the otherwise unknown international cast. In the end, Lee dropped Maguire after realising he was too recognisable for the role and opted for Timothy Spall's son, Rafe, a relative unknown and in keeping with the rest of the casting decisions.
