10 Directors With Make Or Break Movies For 2020

1. Andy Serkis - Venom 2

No Time To Die
Sony

When Venom dropped in cinema screens back in October 2018, the immediate gut response to the flick was one of overwhelming disappointment.

Many felt that the world and titular character had been neutered by its 12A rating and that the subsequent feature felt like a backwards step in superhero movie-making, likening it to infamous flops such as Daredevil and even Green Lantern.

Yet, the film still seemed to strike a chord with a large number of fans around the world and managed to earn an astounding $856 million at the box office.

So, a sequel was definitely going to be on its way and before long Venom 2 was slated for an October 2020 release with none other than the godfather of motion capture himself Andy Serkis attached as director.

With Venom being viewed as the most unlikely of hits in recent memory, will Serkis be able to craft a feature capable of surpassing the first outing for Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock? In both quality and financial success?

Serkis has proven to be the most innovative mind in the game in terms of creating nuanced and compelling motion capture performances - see his recent work on Netflix's Mowgli - which is something he could definitely instil into this next entry into Sony's Spidey-verse.

Yet, if he hits a bum note with this upcoming anti-superhero sequel - set to star Woody Harrleson as Carnage, too - could it result in Serkis' big budget directorial career drifting away 'like a turd in the wind'?

October isn't too far away...so we'll have to wait and see.
