10 Disappointing Comic Book Movies That Deserve A Second Chance

8. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a bloated, underdeveloped sequel that was justifiably torn apart by audiences and critics, but was it really bad enough to justify killing a whole franchise?

One thing you have to appreciate are the intentions of the filmmakers. The main complaint about the film was how overstuffed it was, but the obvious reason for this was so the franchise could build towards the creation of the Sinister Six.

And while we can get into the familiar lecture of not setting up sequels at the expense of the film at hand, had we actually gotten these sequels, we would be forgiving this film a lot more. After all, they were only trying to give us the greatest villain team-up we could possibly imagine!

Even with theses troubles, the film still had a number of redeeming qualities, like Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone’s understandably perfect chemistry. In addition, Garfield’s Spider-Man was exactly what fans wanted from the character.

There was a good chance this could have ended up like Iron Man 2, the sacrificial film to help construct the rest of the universe at the expense of itself. So even if that didn’t pan out, it’s still intriguing to revisit this one and think about how a sequel could have made us enjoy it a lot more in retrospect.
