10 Disappointing Comic Book Movies That Deserve A Second Chance

7. Constantine

Constantine is almost nothing like Hellblazer, the comic it’s based on. Considering it was one of the most compelling and beloved comic book series going, this made the film a non-starter for many fans.

Even for those not familiar with the character, it’s still not a particularly remarkable horror-mystery film. What's worse is that because it waffled between being faithful to the source and carving its own path, it resulted in a simply average film, unable to capitalize on some of its compelling elements.

So while the movie doesn't come together as a whole, there are many parts of it that can still be enjoyed.

The performances, in particular, are enough to go back for. Djimon Hounsou is captivating and Peter Stormare gives one of the best ever cinematic interpretations of the Devil. The real standout, however, is Tilda Swinton as the androgynous Gabriel, a role many fans may want to revisit before seeing her similarly gender and morally fluid character in Doctor Strange.

The plot may be generic and the lead characters aren’t fleshed out enough but this is still an adventure with enough thrills and acting that make it worth your time even if it's not completely worthy of the series it's based on.
