1995's Pocahontas chances of a live-action remake are very slim, despite its highly memorable score gaining the film 2 Academy Award wins.

Aside from the film's score, critical reception to Pocahontas was mixed, with many saying the film failed to live up to the expectations of Disney set by The Lion King and The Little Mermaid.

Also, Disney viewed Pocahontas's box office performance as disappointing, especially when compared to 1994's The Lion King which may suggest Disney may hold off on a live-action remake. Although Pocahontas was still highly profitable and therefore a live-action version could be financially viable for Disney.

However, the major blockade to a live-action version of Pocahontas is history, as unlike many Disney animated films Pocahontas is based on a real person in a controversial time in American history, and therefore representation of these times and peoples could be potentially difficult for Disney to accomplish fairly.

This is a particularly pertinent point when considering the original animated film was criticized by some Native American groups and historians for being inaccurate.
