10 Disney Villains You Actually Root For

5. Professor Ratigan

Appeared in: Basil The Great Mouse Detective (1986) Sadly not remembered too much now, The Great Mouse Detective follows the adventures of Basil of Baker Street, the talented crime-fighting mouse who lives beneath the floorboards of Sherlock Holmes's house. He's even got his own rodent-ified Dr Watson. Yet no Sherlock Holmes story, with mice or otherwise, would be complete without Professor Moriarty - or, in this case, Ratigan. While Ratigan does not have a relatable flaw or a tragic backstory he is the underdog. After being defeated by Basil so many times, the self-titled World's Greatest Criminal Mind really deserves to have at least one victory. With his bonkers scheme - which involves swapping Queen Victoria, sorry Mousetoria, for a clockwork replica - and a surprisingly savage turn at the film's climax, this is one of those rare occasions where you side with the Moriarty character rather than Sherlock. Because how can you not love an evil rat voiced by Vincent Price?
