10 Disturbing Scenes Cut From Comic Book Movies

5. Feel The Burn - Spawn

The Dark Knight Lau Death
New Line Cinema

Ugh, Spawn. This resoundingly weak superhero effort from the late 1990’s tried to turn Todd McFarlane’s dark, violent comic into a crowd-pleasing blockbuster. Despite some cool visuals, the terrible script and stilted performances made sure there wasn’t a sequel.

It didn’t do a good job of sanitising the violence of the source either, which contained hearts being ripped out, child murder and all sorts of unpleasantness. The movie carries that griminess without being too graphic, though the scene where hero is burned alive by his old boss is still intense.

The extended version makes it even, where it lingered more on his pain and made him literally feel the burn. Other moments of violence got cut down too, but this was the one that was too much for theatres.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
