10 Dumb Movie Trailers That Ruined The Film's Ending
1. Cast Away (2000)
Robert Zemeckis' epic survival drama came out on the cusp of the millennium and ended up becoming one of the most memorable movies of the 2000s. Tom Hanks produced and starred as Chuck Noland, a travelling Fed-Ex employee who ends up stranded on an uninhabited island after his plane crashes somewhere in the South Pacific.
The film contained many unforgettable and iconic scenes, from the white-knuckle plane crash in which Hanks hangs from the bathroom door by his fingertips to him washing up ashore and building his escape raft, all of which appear in the trailer. Revealing that much can be forgiven, but showing the audience that Noland is found and actually escapes the island is somewhat baffling.
Towards the end of the two-and-a-half minute trailer it is revealed that Hanks' character is rescued, turning what should have been a suspense-filled nail-biter into a two hour waiting game. In fact, the words "where do you start when you have to start over?" imply that a good chunk of the film will be dedicated to this modern day Robinson Crusoe reintegrating into society, though in reality this was a footnote to his survival ordeal. A bad trailer for a great movie.
