10 Dumb Movie Trailers That Ruined The Film's Ending

2. The Last House On The Left (2009)

This remake of Wes Craven's 1972 film of the same name was directed by Dennis Iliadis, with Craven himself sanctioning the film after becoming curious about how his story could be improved upon with a bigger budget. Financial restraints stopped the late horror veteran from making the film that he truly wanted to make in the 70s, and so he decided the remake would be the first release under his new production company Midnight Pictures.

The trailer begins by showing us a family moving to a creepy new house, a tried and tested horror set-up that really wouldn't have raised any eyebrows without further elaboration. We then learn that daughter Mari is raped, shot and left for dead by local psychopaths. Again, nothing new here. After that, we see Mari's attackers accidentally taking refuge at Mari's parents' house, and when their daughter shows up in a bad way but alive, all hell breaks loose.

Unfortunately, we see that hell in all-too-explicit detail. The trailer really should have stopped at Mari turning up and her parents realising that they have been inadvertently harbouring her attackers, though instead it goes on to show us how Mr and Mrs Collingwood exact their bloody revenge, killing their unwanted guests one by one.

It even includes the death of the groups ringleader, who finds himself paralysed with his head in a microwave oven, ruining the end of the film for everyone unlucky enough to have seen the trailer first.

Phil still hasn't got round to writing a profile yet, as he has an unhealthy amount of box sets on the go.
