10 Dumbest Miscastings In Recent Movies
1. Sydney Sweeney - Madame Web
There are stupid casting choices... and then there's this.
The role of Julia Cornwall, a shy and awkward 16-year-old girl who's destined to become Spider-Woman (or one of them, anyway) could've been played by many a talented young actor... but instead, they cast Sydney Sweeney.
The often-underestimated Sydney Sweeney is a fantastic actress who's proven her naysayers wrong many times over with a wide variety of diverse performances, but, however versatile she undeniably is, not all parts are going to be suitable for her. That's the case with any actor; even chameleons like Daniel Day-Lewis and Gary Oldman won't be able to fit into every role that's thrown their way.
Such is the case here. At the time of filming, Sweeney was 26 and not remotely convincing as a 16-year-old. This was made even more distracting by the fact that she's widely associated with mature, nude scene-heavy roles in a variety of R-rated projects such as HBO's Euphoria and Anyone But You.
Speaking of which, Sweeney apparently agreed to do this dreadful film (with great reluctance, no doubt!) just so that Sony would give Anyone But You the greenlight. Still, couldn't they have cast her in a more appropriate role?
In short, if there's one recent casting choice that makes you wonder what the casting team were smoking, it's this.
