10 Epic Fantasy Movies You Probably Haven't Seen

4. Jabberwocky

This list could be made entirely by the flicks of masterful fantasy filmmaker Terry Gilliam, known for his Monty Python movies and 12 Monkeys, and less so for 2018's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen, and that one Kate Bush music video.

Jabberwocky is another of Gilliam's underrated works that bear similar traits to Life of Brian and The Holy Grail, with the absurdity kicked up to 11. Michael Palin is an aspiring cooper who travels to the capital city to pursue his career and impress his one true love. Unfortunately for him, he gets caught up in the quest to kill the monstrous Jabberwocky that's terrorising the kingdom.

This comedy-of-errors has all the Monty Python parody you know and love, while also ridiculing the genre's themes of destiny, romance, and heroism. Some surprisingly ferocious battles and gruesome injuries arise along the way, with the tale ending on a somewhat ironic subversion of the fantasy happily-ever-after.
