9. Flightplan (2005)
You Know It As... That movie with Jodie Foster stuck on a plane, screaming about her missing child for 90 minutes.
Flightplan was released back 2005, and centered on the story of a mother whose daughter mysteriously vanishes out of thin air during a routine flight to Long Island. Sean Bean, the pilot, seeks to help her discover the truth behind the incident. It's ultimately a relatively meek thriller, and one that becomes far less engrossing the longer it goes on. Still, Jodie Foster plays a character called "Kyle," so that's good for a few laughs, I suppose.
It's A Remake Of...The Lady Vanishes (1938), a classic Alfred Hitchock movie. I'm cheating slightly here, because this is the only movie on the list that isn't "officially" a remake - but it might as well be, given that the guys who wrote
Flightplan literally transposed the plot of Hitch's movie from that of a train to that of a plane (the filmmaker's behind
Flightplan did eventually deem it a "loose remake" of the Hitchcock film, though).
The Lady Vanishes is also a highly superior flick - the taut, entertaining and sophisticated thriller that
Flightplan tries (and fails) to be.
