10 Fatal Mistakes That Ruined The DCEU

2. Everyone Pulling In Different Directions

The lines are becoming increasingly blurred when it comes to DC's big screen output that it's becoming harder to establish what definitive approach, if any, the studio are currently taking to the DCEU.

Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad and Justice League all exist within the same narrative space, but from there it's difficult to see what constitutes as official canon and what doesn't. Wonder Woman technically takes place in this timeline, but got some leeway as a prequel and it remains to be seen how the upcoming sequel fits into the existing framework, if it even does at all.

Shazam!, Aquaman and Birds of Prey all made vague and fleeting references to canon, with all three capable of acting as standalone adventures in their own right for people who have never seen a DCEU movie before. Joker saw Warner Bros. establish that multiple continuities can exist outside of the main series, while James Gunn's The Suicide Squad looks to be a reboot of sorts that could be set to entirely disregard what came previously.

With Ben Affleck's veteran Batman now out of the picture and the reboot following the Dark Knight during his second year on the job, the previous iteration of the character doesn't even have to be acknowledged at all. Having so many different filmmakers trying to do their own thing and heading in different creative directions only creates confusion in the long-run, with continuity already fractured almost beyond repair and no definitive steps being taken to find a unified approach.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
