10 Films President Trump Needs To Watch
2. Dr Strangelove
Once again, by substituting one word for another a movie from a different era becomes shockingly contemporary. In this instance, just substitute “immigrant” for “Communist” and you can enjoy Stanley Kubrick’s movie in a whole new light.
In Dr Strangelove, President Merkin Muffley (Peter Sellers) learns that US Air Force General Jack D Ripper (Sterling Hayden) has gone insane and ordered a nuclear strike on the Soviet Union, which itself has created a “Doomsday Device” that will wipe out all human and animal life on Earth when the country is attacked.
Years of propaganda, double talk and rage against a faceless enemy has convinced Ripper that the fluoridation of water is in fact a monstrous Commie plot to sap the precious bodily fluids of millions of Americans, so he considers his actions those of a patriot, not a monster.
With the constant stream of unfiltered hate spewing from social media and talk radio, how long can it be before Trump’s America gets its own General Ripper, who considers immigration a monstrous liberal plot to steal jobs away from hardworking Americans? This much we can be sure of: their actions and justifications will make as much sense as Ripper's.
