Tired of seeing Full Moon Pictures dominating the countdown yet? Then lucky for you, number four on our countdown is the infamous clown doll from Steven Spielberg's Poltergeist. The film centers around the Freeling family as they deal with volatile spirits inhabiting their home and stealing their daughter through the television. Actually, she gets stolen by the spirits and taken to the other side by way of her bedroom closet and somehow is able to contact her family using the snow on the television. In any event, the spirits delight in torturing the Freeling's, and one method of terrorising them is by possessing the creeptastic clown doll that is used as decoration in daughter Carol Anne and son Robby's bedroom. The doll comes to life and attempts to strangle the life out of Robby, who is creeped out by the doll from the very beginning of the film and has his fears realised in the epic climax to this horror classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWDDoydceVg Why You Rooted For Him: Throughout the film, the Freeling's have the complete support of the film audience; you root for them to save Carol Anne and you root for them to overcome through love, faith, and solidarity. Unfortunately, after they save Carol Anne from the spirits inside their home, they stupidly decide to spend one last evening in the home in preparation for their move to a new house. Any normal family would have saved their child and would have spent the rest of their time at a hotel right after the rescue. Why was Carol Anne even left in the house... let alone in the very bedroom she was abducted in? The Freeling's should have had CPS called on them for putting their children in harm's way. As for Robby? His chipmunk screams and inability to escape being assaulted by a tree made you wish the clown would have done him in just 'cause.
