10 Films That Dominated CinemaCon
5. Lion King
Disney's panel featured early looks at a handful of their upcoming live-action adaptations, all of which were pretty impressive, but they saved the best for last. They rounded out their panel by showing the opening sequences of Jon Favreau's live-action The Lion King and those in attendance were absolutely floored.
The sequence was a near-exact recreation of the animated film's 'Circle of Life' opening, only with the animation swapped out for stunning digital recreations. Disney's president of theatrical distribution, Cathleen Taff, attempted to keep expectations in-check before showing the footage, saying it was only a 'proof of concept' demo.
But that didn't stop those in attendance from salivating all over it. The footage was praised as 'flawless' following the screening, with many sharing the sentiment that Favreau looks to have only gotten more precise in his CGI-filmmaking in the few years since The Jungle Book.
