3. The Forgotten (2004)
Psychological thriller to Sci -fi It must be tough being Telly Paretta (Julianne Moore). As well as having a daft name, no one will believe you when you tell them that your son, Sam, died fourteen months ago in a plane crash. Not even your husband (Anthony Edwards), who has the gall to say you never even had a son. And then there's your doctor (Gary Sinise) who calls you delusional and bundles you off to a hospital. Of course, you run away- and bump into a man by the name of Ash (Dominic West). You know for a fact that he lost his daughter in the same crash, so he's gotta believe you, right? At first, watching this woman frantically clawing against an apparent conspiracy is intriguing stuff. And then comes the a-word. Aliens. Well, it's never expressed outright but all the talk of ''them'' and all those strange shots of people being suddenly yanked up into the sky are the next best thing. Turns out that Sam did exist, yet for some reason, government agents were doing their darnedest to keep Telly from uncovering the truth. And the truth is...aliens took him. The end. There's a reason this film makes every Worst Plot Twists list.
