10 Franchises That Should've Quit After Two Films

7. Cloverfield

Terminator Salvation T-800
Bad Robot

The Cloverfield franchise is a strange one, the first instalment being a found footage monster film and its loose sequel (maybe even prequel) acting as a claustrophobic drama. However, the bland third offering The Cloverfield Paradox managed to kill off any interest for this franchise after its straight-to-Netflix release.

Inventive The Cloverfield Paradox's Super Bowl advertising may have been but a good - or even solid - film it definitely was not. Unsure of what genre it wanted to be classified as, this third instalment was a mish mash of a space exploration movie with elements of body horror and some vague nonsense about alternative realities shoved in for good measure.

With a notable silence on any upcoming projects in the Cloverfield universe, perhaps its best to simply let this franchise go the same way as the infamous Dark Universe: to a quick and painless death.

An avid cinephile, love Trainspotting (the film, not the hobby), like watching bad films ironically (The Room, Cats) and hate my over-reliance on brackets (they’re handy for a quick aside though).
