10 French Horror Movies You Need To See
3. Les Yeux Sans Visage
Les Yeux Sans Visage, aka Eyes Without A Face, is a classic 60s film that plays beautifully into the understated horror of the time. With an incredibly creepy central character of Christiane, the film portrays a woman trapped by her father as he attempts to give her a new face - wracked with guilt at having disfigured her in an accident years earlier. To do this, he captures unsuspecting young women, slices their faces off, and attempts to stick them on Christiane's - but of course, doctor or not, it's never going to be that easy.
Christiane's face is constantly obscured by a porcelain-doll like mask, perfectly moulded to her face to allow her to be emotionless, but ever watching. The title makes sense now, eh?
