10 Great Films From 2015 You'll Never Watch Again (And Why)

4. The Walk

Robert Zemeckis€™ recreation of Philppe Petit€™s insanely dangerous walk between the twin towers on a wire is a technical marvel, managing to put the audience into his vertigo inducing shoes. Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives a spirited performance as the crazy dreamer Petit, though his French accent isn€™t always up to scratch. The film is pure fluffy whimsy; which is both a good and a bad thing. Why You€™ll Never Watch It Again: Like Gravity or Avatar, once the experience of the 3D fades there€™s not much substance left. The lead up to the high wire act is corny in the extreme, with voiceover narration being used to tell the audience exactly what€™s happening and why. The Walk is drenched in sentimentality too, which feels like overkill in what's already a pretty inspiring story. The dizzying final act works best on a big screen with the proper sound design, and once those elements are removed this scene loses a lot of the impact. Since the outcome is known well ahead of time, there€™s not much tension to be found either.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
