10 Great Monster Movies You've Never Seen

1. Colossal

Death Kappa
NEON

Colossal is one of those rare movies that just feels right in every way.

After returning to the town she grew up, a women suddenly finds herself mysteriously connected with the appearance of a giant monster on the other side of the planet. As she begins to discover her connection to this mysterious creature, she is forced to face facts about herself and her life that will change everything about who she is.

Without giving too much away, and trust me, there isn't much about Colossal you want given away, the film plays with the idea of what being a supposed "monster" really means by putting a very human spin on them.

Thematically the movie uses its characters and their relationships to the giant monsters as a way to deal with themes such as addiction, abuse, and self-loathing in ways that feel all too real. Don't be fooled by its seemingly lighthearted tone, as Colossal has much more on its mind than kaiju hijinks. The film, while for sure comedic, doubles as a emotional gut punch that will move the viewer to reflect on things about themselves they'd likely rather not, much like Anne Hathaway's protagonist.

Colossal was unfortunately slept on by audiences at its time of release, and it's about time people start waking up to its greatness.
