10 Great Movie Sequels (That Nobody Saw)

8. Inferno

Dario Argento's art-horror masterpiece Suspiria is widely considered to be one of the finest horror films ever made. Its emphasis on dazzling visual flair and horrific set-piece murders have singled it out as one of the must-sees in the genre.

In 1980, Argento decided to revisit the lore of Suspiria and bring us Inferno, an often overlooked gem of Italian horror that's every bit as weird and wonderful as the original.

Moving the action to New York, we follow music student Mark as he begins to investigate a prestigious apartment building that may be home to the Mother of Darkness herself, Mater Tenebaraum. From there it's a whole host of bloody murders and strange goings on as Mark finds himself embroiled in something truly strange.

Unlike Suspiria, Inferno wasn't given a wide released outside of its native Italy, meaning that fans of the original had to actively seek it out via imports or select screenings. Thankfully subsequent re-releases on home media have secured its place in cult history.

It's every bit as bright, colourful and downright nasty as its predecessor, but also far more operatic and so bizarre that you can't help but be pulled in by its (admittedly hokey) charms.
