The latest installment in the James Bond series, Skyfall, introduced us to a new villain in the form of Raoul Silva. A former operative left with horrific injuries and mental scarring because of his apparent betrayal at the hands of MI6. Silva took over the island city by causing a false alarm about a chemical leak, causing a mass evacuation and leaving it solely in his hands. It serves as a command centre for him to launch his cyber-attacks and houses a huge number of servers and other technical equipment, giving him everything he needs to accomplish his goals. It is an ideal base of operations simply because it offers maximums privacy government agencies are unlikely to investigate it as a possible lair due to the supposed chemical leak. While no one is ever likely to stumble upon it thanks to its remote location in the ocean, whereas those who already know about will stay away because of the evacuation. His lair complements his character perfectly the isolated island filled with rotting and degrading buildings, a mere shadow of its former glory. It is all the more meaningful because of this and when combined with its haunting appearance it becomes one of the most memorable places seen in any Bond film.
