10 Greatest Rock Documentaries Ever Made
4. The Beatles Anthology - The Beatles
Most rock documentaries aren't typically that convoluted of a story to get down. As much as some bands might have different stories here and there, you can normally wrap up your tale in a couple of hours or less. If you're one of the greatest bands in the world though, it's sometimes best to stretch things out for a little while longer.
Compared to some of the more notable rock docs out there, The Beatles Anthology is quite the undertaking for any Fabs fan, running upwards of 9 hours spread out over episodes made for television. Though this could have easily come off as a gimmicky thing, the interview snippets from each of the band members made it that more engaging. It's clear that the boyish charm from those movies like A Hard Day's Night hadn't gone anywhere, as they still are willing to discuss the whirlwind lives they had to lead throughout the Swinging '60s.
Even John Lennon's death did nothing to dissuade fans, as Lennon turns up in different clips and for the occasional narration here and there. Above all else, the box set that came with the Anthology is a treasure trove for any hardcore fan, showing just as many demos as they do new songs like Real Love. After nearly 20 years of being apart, this documentary showed that the world still has that same infatuation with the Fabs as they did in the '60s.
