10 Greatest Rock Documentaries Ever Made
5. Back and Forth - Foo Fighters
The story of Dave Grohl's journey to becoming one of the biggest rock stars in the world is sure to go down as one of the greatest underdog stories in music. Having been sidelined by the sudden death of Kurt Cobain in '94, Dave managed to pick himself up and win over the rock masses one more time with the Foo Fighters, with the musical chops to pull it off with songs like Monkey Wrench and Everlong. The journey may have been spotty, but Back and Forth managed to leave no stone unturned.
Starting from his time being in Nirvana, this is more or less a documentary of Dave Grohl's musical journey than anything else, with the rest of the band adding their own unique extensions onto everything. For as much as Dave is known as one of the nicest men in rock, the film is also not shy about airing the more gory details, from having to kick Franz Stahl out of the band to having a major spat with Taylor Hawkins towards the beginnings of making One by One.
Above all else, this doesn't really aim to show you rock stars in their element, but rather Dave as a person who just happened to fall into the greatest gig in the world. As much as Dave would have wanted to pick a different name at the outset, he can rest easy knowing he has become one of the most down to earth frontmen of his generation.
