10 Hidden Comedy Horror Movie Gems Of The Last Decade

From Braindead, Black Sheep, Deathgasm, and so much more, New Zealand is the undisputed home of hidden gems. But one genre outing that film lovers absolutely must seek out is Gerard Johnstone's outrageously hilarious debut feature Housebound.

When teenage delinquent Kylie (Morgana O'Reily) is placed under house arrest she soon comes to believe that her family home is haunted. Strange and unexplained events start to occur which leads to the unravelling of an enticing mystery as Kylie begins her own investigation.

Whereas many horror-comedies tend to go down a more comic route, Housebound succeeds by perfectly blending both genres to create a tantalising concoction.

As a horror film, Housebound is a chilling haunted house affair with plenty of genuinely creepy sequences to have audiences on the edge of their seats. Likewise, the script’s deadpan wit and standout performances from the entire cast ensures viewers will be laughing whenever they’re not screaming in terror.

And if all that somehow isn't enough, a smart mystery takes events into an unforeseen new direction which only serves to heighten the fun.

There are plenty of excellent horror-cmedies out there, but none are quite like Housebound.
