10 Horror Movie Characters Who Did Everything Right And Still Failed

You're Next's fierce heroine Erin (Sharni Vinson) is one of the smartest and most tenacious horror movie protagonists of the last decade-plus. 

Having been raised on a survivalist compound, she's uniquely equipped to fend off the masked assailants descending upon the family reunion, systematically dispatching them with brutal efficiency.

Her uncommon cunning seemingly earned her a happy ending, then, except the film's savage final stinger has Erin get shot in the shoulder by a cop who attends the scene. 

But what seals the deal is that said cop then enters the house and is killed by one of the Home Alone-style traps Erin set up to take on her attackers.

Even though Erin is alive when the movie ends, she's going to have trouble explaining all the carnage away as the sole survivor. 

Director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett have even spoken about a potential sequel where Erin is attacked by more masked murderers while being transported on a prison bus, seemingly confirming that she is indeed blamed for the deaths.

Still, it's a slightly less bleak fate than the original ending, where the cop simply shot Erin in the head, believing her to be the aggressor.
