10 Horror Movie Characters Who Didn't Really Have To Die

2. Randy Meeks - Scream 2

Randy Meeks didn't just live and breathe horror. He knew the rules of the genre better than anyone.

So, when the slasher-obsessed serial killer, Ghostface, began hacking up the people of Woodsboro, Randy was their only hope. Although he tried to warn his friends, he was often ridiculed, which is why Scream concluded with Randy being among the few survivors.

When Randy returned in Scream 2, we assumed he would be the best line of defence against the new bowknife-wielding maniac. Sadly, the loveable geek barely made it to the half-way point.

Now, there's nothing wrong with killing Randy off. However, it becomes a problem when the filmmakers wanted to bring him back for Scream 3. When another Ghostface plagues Woodsboro in this threequel, Sidney is terrified, since Randy's not around to give her insight on the stab-crazed killer's motive.

Luckily, Sidney discovers Randy pre-recorded a video before his death to tell her what to do if a trilogy-obsessed Ghostface went after her. Not only is this whole scenario forced, it's non-sensical. This means Randy taped this footage under the impression his friends would defeat Scream 2's Ghostface, then another serial killer would emerge, who would abide by trilogy rules. Randy may be a know-it-all, but he's not clairvoyant.

To avoid this whole contrived mess, it would've been more sensible to keep Randy alive, so he could help Sidney in Scream 3 in person.
