10 Horror Movie Heroes Who Made Everything Worse

5. The Sandins - The Purge

Tommy Jarvis Friday The 13th

In The Purge, the new US government passes a law to legalise all crime for one night in an attempt to lower... um... crime. So, for 12 hours, burglary, arson, and murder is A-OK.

Now, if you lived in a city where killing was legal, you would take every precaution possible or leave the country.

Or you could act like the Sandin family and discard every survival instinct imaginable. Instead of waiting out the Purge in a safe room, the Sandins decide to split up (because that's always a good idea). When the youngest, Charlie, learns a man outside has been attacked by a mob, he disables the security system to let him. Unsurprisingly, Charlie's decision leads the mob straight to their doorstep.

When the gang leader orders the father, James, to let them in, he reluctantly agrees, alerting his family that the house can't withstand an assault.

But if the house can't stop a break-in, why did the Sandins stay there in the first place? Why would ANYONE stay in their house during the Purge unless it was fortified enough to resist a full-scale attack? So, when the mob break in and kill James, he only has himself to blame.
