10 Horror Movie Performances That Proved EVERYONE Wrong

8. Jane Levy - Evil Dead

When the remake of Evil Dead was announced for 2013, the yawn from horror fans was almost audible.

While the original version of Sam Raimi's franchise had developed a cult following, the franchise had not produced an outing since 1992. There was a sense that the notoriously bloody horror series had seen its heyday come and go. Even original iconic protagonist, Bruce Campbell's Ash Williams, had been confirmed as not returning.

This lack of excitement clearly did not go down well with director Fede Alvarez, who went to work on what was marketed as "The Most Terrifying Film You Will Ever Experience", casting Jane Levy as central protagonist Mia Allen. A recovering drug addict, Mia becomes possessed by a demon as her friends attempt to ween her off drugs in a remote forest cabin.

To say that Levy is terrifying while possessed by the demon is quite possibly the understatement of the century. Levy's face contorts into a hideous demonic mask, rasping out the vilest obscenities as she attempts to murder her closest friends in the most sadistic, gory fashion imaginable.

Levy's stupendous range is further demonstrated in the latter stages of the film where she is free of the possession. Effortlessly transforming from hunter to hunted, she morphs from a snarling nightmarish creature to a traumatized, vulnerable girl willing to do anything to survive the unimaginable evil hunting her.

Outdated? Evil Dead never dies.
