10 Horror Movie Scenes That Weren't Meant To Be Funny (But Were)

7. Axe To The Head - Friday The 13th

Sleepaway Camp
Paramount Pictures

Even though Friday the 13th has tons of creative kills, the way Kevin Bacon's character goes out in the original is still regarded by many as the best death in the franchise. It's simple, brutal, and looks surprisingly convincing, even by today's standards.

Ironically, the first instalment also has one of the dumbest deaths in the long-running series. When Marcie hears a strange noise, she opens the curtains to inspect her surroundings. When she finds nothing, she reassures herself saying, "It must've been my imagination."

But after turning around, she's confronted by the axe-wielding murderer. Paralysed by fear, she lets out a bloodcurdling scream as the blade comes down on her face. With the hatchet buried into the skull, Marcie's corpse slides to the ground.

Although deaths like this are usually ruined by a prosthetic head or a rubber axe, Marcie's death looks authentic.

But the scene is ruined by Marcie's reaction... or lack of. After the axe is embedded in her cranium, she doesn't looked frightened at all. Instead, she looks bored or mildly annoyed, as if she's thinking, "Oh no, I have been killed. Darn."
