10 Horror Movie Sequels That Don't Fit Their Franchise

3. The Strangers: Prey At Night

The Strangers is one of the most suspenseful, tension-driven movies ever released and still well worth a mention on the best horror movies in recent times. Based on a true story and influenced by everyone's worst fears, the film follows the story a couple being harassed by three home invaders in outfits. Although it made a real splash with audiences and netted a cool $82.4 million box office, it would take a whole decade for a sequel to be made.

When it did come, The Strangers: Prey At Night was a very different type of film, subbing out the tension and atmosphere of the first film for what is essentially a homage to the neon lights, synth-heavy music and slasher films of the '80s. The confines of one household are expanded to an entire caravan park and the number of protagonists is doubled from two to four in Prey At Night to create what is essentially an action-driven slasher movie.

Baghead, Pin-Up Girl and Dollface are all given significantly more screentime in Prey At Night too, escaping from out of the shadows and engaging the main family in some pretty memorable action sequences across the movie.
