10 Horror Movie Sequels That Took Risks... And Failed

2. Halloween Ends

Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2

As soon as Halloween Ends' premise was announced, alarm bells went off. It turned out that this would focus on a new killer other than Michael Myers, and this was... a choice, alright. A good one? Not really, in the end.

What's frustrating here is that Halloween Ends does have some good ideas about the cyclical nature of evil, and the final scenes do provide a satisfying end to the story of Michael Myers, so this could've been so much better. Alas, it was all just a bit of a mess in the end, and though Rohan Campbell did very well in the part of new villain Corey Cunningham, the character himself - complete with a limp romance with Laurie Strode's granddaughter Allison (Andi Matichak) - wasn't especially compelling.

Halloween Ends isn't quite as bad as some say it is, but it'd be hard to deny that it was a total mess, with it feeling like two different films at once. It tries to tell Corey's story while also finishing off the saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), giving the movie a disjointed and rushed feel.

It's easily one of the boldest and most expectation-defying horror sequels of all time, and it's a damn shame it didn't land better.
