10 Horror Movie Tropes That Prove "If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It"

5. Don't Go Into The Woods

For this trope to occur, the horror movie in question must be set either in or near the woods. If the film's premise involves some sort of woodland retreat, then upon stopping in a nearby village for petrol, the protagonists will be warned by a village local to cancel their trip, turn around and go home.

Of course, the protagonists will completely ignore this warning, and will instead proceed with the trip as planned.

Usually, this results in each of the characters being picked off one by one by either a serial killer, or some sort of paranormal entity.

"Don't Go Into the Woods" is only ever in use if there is a group of protagonist and the majority of the film (and most importantly, the murders) takes place in the woods.

Trope Examples: The Blair Witch Project (1999), Cabin in the Woods (2012), Friday the 13th (1980), The Village (2004)
