10 Horror Movies That Abandoned Awesome Ideas Halfway Through

1. The Pyramid

The premise of 2014's The Pyramid appeared endlessly promising. Exploring an untouched pyramid made for a thrilling premise, one that mythology buffs anxiously hoped would see the horror genre adapted around the awe-inspiring characters and epic tales drawn from Ancient Egyptian mythology.

Sadly, the fact that James Buckley - better known as The Inbetweeners' chief gobsh*te Jay Cartwright - was cast in a leading horror role should have set the alarm bells ringing for anyone who thought that the film would actually do its tantalizing subject matter justice.

While a decent beginning cultivates what is actually a surprisingly effective air of tension, the film swiftly descends into a truly barbaric medley of horror's most played out cliches around its midway point. After our heroes duly become trapped within the vast structure, The Pyramid wastes little time in abandoning any potential exploration of the mysteries of Ancient Egypt in favour of splitting up the group, the most predictable of jump scares and a dismally underdeveloped plot.

The events of the movie ultimately seem so disconnected from what is allegedly the central premise that it's legitimately easy to forget that the characters are even in a pyramid. Viewers are actually rather grateful for Buckley's presence as he provides some much needed (albeit unintentional) comic relief across a truly arduous 89 minutes.
