10 Horror Sequels That Are Actually Worth Watching

6. Scream VI (2023)

Scream has spent the past three decades serving up genuine scares and meta commentary on its own genre, managing to surprise us every step of the way. And while most of the series’ sequels are worth a look, latest instalment Scream VI manages to be a cut above the rest.

VI gets away from Woodsboro, where most of the films’ action takes place, and brings the characters of Scream (2022) to the Big Apple for a movie on a different scale. Ghostface stalks the new and old cast alike, uniting them in a seemingly unwinnable battle as he counts down the previous killers, using each of their masks in his new string of grisly and creative murders.

If there was a shark to jump, Scream VI cleared the entire ocean, recognising that there’s not much sense in trying to bring the franchise back to steady ground at this point, and amping up the madcap antics, crazy twists and maniacal laughter. And this includes introducing (and then despatching) a family of three killers this time round - Detective Bailey (Dermot Mulroney), and his children Ethan and Quinn (Jack Champion and Liana Liberato) – who hope to avenge the death of their fourth family killer, Richie (Jack Quaid), from the previous film. Phew.

But make no mistake: it’s so batshit crazy it’s actually good.
