10 Horror Sequels That Are Actually Worth Watching
5. Terrifier 2 (2022)
Thanks to its extreme gore and repertoire of nigh-unwatchable scenes, Damien Leone’s Terrifier series has been a hit with horror fans across the globe, even managing to make its way into mainstream cinemas, despite the latest iteration featuring the terrorist bombing of children at the mall.
But the first film was not exactly a strong basis for a franchise. Clocking in at just 85 minutes, it manages to feel twice this length, with weak acting, little in the way of character motivation, and no plot to speak of.
Thankfully, Leone planted enough seeds with this first instalment, and was granted enough of a budget the next time around, to make Terrifier 2 a no-holds-barred spectacle marrying symbolism, mythology, slightly more three-dimensional characters, and horrendous violence. A freshly resurrected Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) enters the lives of Sienna Shaw (Lauren LaVera) and family, accompanied this time by his helper, the Little Pale Girl (Amelie McLain) and really mining the humour of his whole miming gig to make their lives hell.
Whether you’re in it for the plot or the kills, there’s plenty to sate you, and the film manages to rescue a grim and unforgiving series with a new, more light-hearted tone and some sadistic, devilish scenes of violence the like of which we’ve never seen on screen before. It’s a win-win.
