10 Horror TV Shows With Terrifying Surprises

4. Violet's Fate - American Horror Story: Murder House

The Haunting Of Hill House Bent Neck Lady Nell
Fox

Murder House, the first instalment in the anthology series American Horror Story, wove a complex web of plot threads that required close attention. That is, if you were brave enough to not watch through your fingers the whole time!

Following the central Harmon family as they move into the titular house, they each face a unique but linked set of supernatural threats. Teenage daughter Violet has to deal with the crumbling marriage of her parents, social ostracization at school, and the weird affections of a creepy ghost boy called Tate who lives in her house.

Understandably, it’s a lot to deal with. After finding out that Tate was killed by a SWAT team after committing a massacre at her high school, she attempts suicide. Tate saves her, and they reconcile. She stops attending school, which her dad is pretty unhappy about. He promises to let her change schools, but Tate isn’t happy about this. He tries to convince her to stay, but she really wants to leave.

So, Tate pulls the wool from Violet’s eyes and takes her into the house’s crawlspace, where Violet sees her own corpse gazing lifelessly back at her. It turns out that her attempt was successful, and she has become a ghost trapped in the house. It’s very well executed and utterly horrific, and the audience really empathise with the distraught Violet.
