10 Huge Casting Surprises Avengers: Doomsday Could Still Pull
4. Any Of The Eternals
There are certain characters that have appeared in the MCU and then disappeared without a trace, and with no real timescale or obvious return in place. Shang-Chi fell into this category until Simu Liu's name was announced as part of the Doomsday cast, and the Eternals fit the bill as well.
It's been four years since Sersi and co. graced the MCU, and only in Captain America: Brave New World has the movie been referenced elsewhere. Even in this, Tiamut the Celestial was a factor in the story, bringing adamantium to the party, whereas there wasn't any mention of the race of robot aliens themselves.
Of course, there may be a sequel on the way somewhere down the line, but at the moment Eternals feels like Phase Four's version of The Incredible Hulk. Very much the black sheep of the family, particularly as one of its big set-ups was for Mahershala Ali's Blade, which feels further away than ever right now.
All this to say that no one would expect the Eternals to make their return any time soon. Ajax, Gilgamesh, and Ikaris (Salma Hayek, Don Lee, and Richard Madden) are dead, Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo (Gemma Chan, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kumail Nanjiani) have been taken by the Celstial Arashem, while Lia McHugh's Sprite is living a relatively normal life on Earth, so they may be out of the running completely. But could there be room for a return for the likes of Thena, Druig, and Makkari (Angelina Jolie, Barry Keoghan, and Lauren Ridloff), who were last seen on board the Domo? Stranger things have happened.
