Greg Pak and John Romita Jnrs World War Hulk crossover from 2007 comes up frequently in fan discussions about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The follow up to Planet Hulk (in which the big green rage monster was banished off-world by his former friends), the story quite simply saw the Hulk returning to Earth from his forced exile and wreaking revengeful havoc. Hulk wasnt just peeved because hed been banished, either. He had fallen in love while away, but the spaceship hed been sent in exploded and killed his pregnant wife. Upon his return to Earth, his wrath sent him into tussles with Iron Man, Spidey villain Scorpion, and military forces led by Thunderbolt Ross. Hulk then forced Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Mr Fantastic and prominent Inhuman Black Bolt to fight in a coliseum while he attempted to sack New York. Its an action-packed book, which puts Hulks rage front and centre as well as packing a twist or two towards the end. In the MCU, both Avengers movies have already teased the possibility of Mark Ruffalos Hulk losing control and threatening populations. An adaptation of the World War Hulk storyline feels like a logical endgame to this plot thread, as well as an opportunity for another big crossover.
