10 Hyped 2019 Movies That Disappointed Everyone

8. The Lion King

Remaking popular, successful movies from the past is nothing new for Disney. Since 2015 the studio has released live action remakes of the likes of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, and Aladdin, with Mulan set to debut in 2020. These are now routine for the House of Mouse, but in 2016 they released something ground breaking.

The Jungle Book was different to the rest of these movies. Casting live action versions of cartoon characters is one thing, but 'live action' animals is something truly special. What Jon Favreau did in 2016 was capture lightning in a bottle. In 2019, when the studio released the Lion King however, this animation was no longer new.

What Favreau gave us with his latest project was an almost shot for shot remake of the story exactly as it was told in 1993, and without being able to rely on incredible new technology as the Jungle Book did, it was something of a disappointment. Of course it is still an incredible spectacle in terms of aesthetics, but there needed to be something more.

Was there really any point to releasing the movie again if there wasn't at least something different to the original?
