Exactly what was it that made people stop seeing Ewan McGregor as a serious actor? Was it his foray into the Star Wars universe, films that make every single actor involved seem like a wooden puppet? Or maybe his proclivity for getting his kit off in nearly every film that he did early on in his career? People focus on some of the sillier roles that he's done, and to be fair he hasn't always picked the best material. But it seems like a lot of other actors would be steeped in acclaim if they had half the body of work that McGregor has. His performance in Trainspotting may have been many years ago, but it's iconic. And more recently, he turned in a heart-wrenching performance in The Impossible, which could have wallowed in sentimentality but somehow managed to express real human emotion.
