10 Insane Alternate Endings To 2017's Biggest Movies (So Far)
7. Everybody Dies Except For Lynch - Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed came and went earlier this with little critical fanfare, but it did manage to pull in a rather hefty box office gross (though probably not enough for the studio to invest those clearly intended sequels).
Michael Fassbender plays the descendant of a 15th century assassin in a plot that was so convoluted that the movie was near impossible to follow (to attempt to repeat it here would be an exercise in futility).
The movie ends, however, with a bunch of assassin prisoners successfully fighting to escape a facility, but an alternate ending - which was actually shot and later discarded - would have been a whole lot darker. Like, a lot darker. Picture a scene in which everybody - seriously, everybody - except for Fassbender's Lynch winds up being brutally murdered during the final sequence.
Test audiences rejected this bleakly-imagined finale, however, and so the studio opted for a more hopeful climax instead. Still, given that the chances of another Assassin's Creed movie are pretty slim, maybe it would have made more sense in retrospect to have gone with the super bleak finale after all? Would have been a pretty memorable way to kill this franchise off forever, that's for sure.
