10 Insane Alternate Endings To 2017's Biggest Movies (So Far)

8. Godzilla Awakens! - Kong: Skull Island

Kong Skull Island Kong
Warner Bros.

Obviously the reason that Kong: Skull Island even exists is because Warner Bros. are desperate to create a film in which King Kong and Godzilla can smash the hell out of one another for two hours for our entertainment (please, make this movie).

But given the timeframe associated with this franchise, audiences kind of knew going into the film that Kong wouldn't wind up facing off against the King of the Monsters, given that it's set in the 1970s and the more recent Godzilla flick is set, like, now.

Which is why the alternate ending, in which Godzilla reveals himself to the survivors of Skull Island, was ultimately scrapped. As director Jordan Vogt-Roberts explained in a recent interview when he was asked about the ending:

"There was one version of that scene where Conrad and Weaver were on a boat in the Arctic ocean with Brooks. Conrad and Vernon say ‘what are we waiting for?’, and Brooks is like ‘hold on, hold on…’ – and then Godzilla surfaces and breaks through the ice. But then we realized that doesn’t really jive with Godzilla, because in Godzilla, they say he hasn’t really surfaced since the atomic bomb tests."

This would have been cool right up until the moment you were walking through the parking lot, suddenly realising that it made absolutely zero sense for Godzilla to turn up and the entire chronology had been screwed.
