10 Insane Ways Actors Prepared For Famous Movie Scenes

10. Tom Cruise Became A UPS Delivery Man To Prepare For The Club Shootout - Collateral

Collateral Tom Cruise

By far the most memorable sequence in Michael Mann's masterful thriller Collateral is the fantastic nightclub shootout, where assassin Vincent (Tom Cruise) slickly stalks through a club in search of his next target, before being spotted and ending up in an intense firefight on the dance floor.

But before filming the scene, the notoriously meticulous Mann didn't believe that Tom Cruise could convincingly blend into a crowd, as the scene initially required him to.

And so, the director gave Cruise some homework, ordering him to don a UPS costume, complete with a hat and sunglasses, and attempt to make a delivery without his true identity being discovered.

Naturally, Cruise was totally game, and footage of the actor making the delivery was even included on the movie's home video release (below).

If the extensive weapons training Mann insisted upon ensured Cruise was physically convincing as an expert assassin, this exercise surely provided the mental component. Given the fantastic end result, you can't really argue with it, bizarre though it might seem.
