10 Lessons The DCEU Must Learn From Avengers: Infinity War

3. Keep The Audience Guessing

Unpredictability is the lifeblood of Infinity War. Nobody knew who was going to live, who was going to die, which long-lost Marvel Cinematic Universe character was going to show up next, and exactly how the whole thing was going to end. There was a twist in virtually every scene and this kept fans on tenterhooks throughout.

By comparison, Justice League held few surprises. The movie's biggest twist was the return of Superman, something everyone knew was inevitable in advance, and many predicted that he would battle his teammates at some point.

There was rarely a moment when the main characters were in any real jeopardy, and it came as no surprise when the film's death toll was limited to Steppenwolf, a few STAR Labs scientists, a handful of Amazons and dozens of Parademons.

In other words, it was a by-numbers superhero movie where good triumphs over evil and everything seems right in the world by the time the end credits start to roll.

Justice League is a movie that sorely needed a few decent twists to break up the action and exposition. Future films should do more to create a niggling sense of uncertainty where the heroes' chances of defeating the villain are concerned.
