10 Lost Horror Movies You Can't Watch
1. London After Midnight
London After Midnight is the most famous of lost horror films mainly due to the fact that it was directed by Tod Browning - who directed the original Dracula – and it starred Lon Chaney in one of his most iconic make-up jobs. It was also highly successful in the box-office, becoming the tenth highest-grossing film of 1927. The film was so successful that Tod Browning even went on to remake the film in 1935 as Mark Of The Vampire with Bela Lugosi replacing Lon Chaney as a means to capitalise off of the success of 1931’s Dracula.
However, the last copy of London After Midnight was struck by tragedy as it was claimed by the 1965 MGM vault fire that burned away the last copy of A Blind Bargain as well. To this day, many posters, plays and production stills survive. That wasn’t enough for some people, however, and due to the film’s popularity and iconic status, Turner Classic Movies made a valiant attempt at restoring London After Midnight using the surviving stills and re-making the titles. The reconstruction lasts forty-five minutes, and was released as part of The Lon Chaney Collection DVD set.
